Learning to Identify the Drip Tape Valve
Using valves to control zones of drip tape is the most common type and the most common types are:
Ball Valve: A simple valve with a handle to operate a ball inside the valve. It is open when the handle is lined up parallel with the pipe. When the handle is perpendicular, it is closed.
Gate Valve: A valve with a handwheel that raises and lowers the gate inside the valve. Turning the handwheel to the left (counterclockwise), opens the valve and right (clockwise), closes the valve.
Anti-Siphon Valve: A type of valve that is often used as the main connection point for a faucet or hose to your irrigation system.

“I have had my share of cheap plastic valves that crack in the sun or become brittle in the cold. Last spring, I installed these heavy-duty drip tape valves on all of my mainline headers, and they have been perfect. The connection with the brass barb is solid - no leaks, even when I am moving the lines around. The handle is nice and solid, and easy to turn, even with gloves on. For a grower that is serious about growing and saving time and frustrations between seasons, it is a no brainer."
"We needed a way to shut off water to our blueberry bushes without affecting the drip lines for the perennial beds. This valve was the solution. It's well made, and the 'on/off' indicator is easy to see. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that the barb was a little large for our 1/2" mainline. We had to use some force to get it on, but once it was, it sealed perfectly. A dip in hot water would likely make that easier, but for us, it wasn't too bad. Good product for the money."
